Heim & Söhne is a German family-run manufactory with a history dating back to 1862, renowned for its expertise in crafting fine objects from acrylic glass and formerly tortoiseshell. For over six generations, the company has stood for precision, material knowledge and a deep commitment to hand craftsmanship. Within this tradition, KL1 was developed as a contemporary interpretation of cutlery.
A spoon is never just a spoon. For Kai Linke, it is a cultural artefact, a collector’s object and the starting point of a long-term design research. The KL1 cutlery set emerged from years of engagement with flatware as an object between everyday use and cultural meaning. The three-piece set – spoon, fork and spreading knife – translates observation, knowledge and attitude into a clear and reduced form. KL1 combines formal precision with a distinct character while continuing the refined design language of Heim & Söhne.
KL1 focuses on proportion, balance and detail. Paper models and hand-shaped prototypes preceded the final design – a careful exploration of scale, weight and tactility. The gently curved surfaces sit naturally in the hand; the material feels light yet present. The set works equally well for everyday dining and for more conscious moments at the table or on the go. A restrained object with a strong identity.

KL1 is crafted from high-quality acrylic glass (PMMA) at the Heim & Söhne manufactory in Germany. Each piece is made by hand through cutting, forming, sanding and polishing. The characteristic grain makes every item unique. The material is taste-neutral, age-resistant, recyclable and dishwasher safe up to 50°C. Available in five colors – cream, sunny yellow, moss, pink and tortoise – KL1 combines timeless design with enduring quality, made in Germany.
